NB Power has been given permission to begin collecting an increased power rate starting June 8.
The 9.6 per cent interim increase was approved in full by New Brunswick's Public Energy and Utility Board on Friday afternoon.
With the province's Harmonized Sales Tax figured in, consumers will be paying 10.9 per cent more for power.
NB Power lawyer Terrence Morrison said the utility has been bleeding money daily and required the rate hike immediately.
The board ordered NB Power to develop a plan to rebate percentages of power bills to consumers in case the full utility rate hearing, slated for November, reveals that the interim increase isn't justified.
