iwei, 38-year old fighter pilot. With China becoming the third nation
to reach for the stars, the Chinese are ecstatic. It appears to be a f
law free mission so far, 14 orbits, expected to last 21 hours.
The founder of China’s rocketry program built his first ballist
ic missile while working for us. An exchange student, then a professor
in MIT subsequently an officer in our army, co-funded NASA’s Jet Pro
pulsion Laboratory. During the communist quarantine in 1955, he returned home to China.
China’s spaceship may have been made of American junk. The Unit
ed States sends crashed cars and other scrap iron to China everyday. O
ur supply is inexhaustible and China’s appetite is insatiable, even a
t 188 dollars a ton.
